Nel 1917, quando Ubaldo Pasqui vide questa opera nel Palazzo della Fraternita, che al tempo era già in Via San Lorentino (Palazzo Barbolani da Montauto), la descrive così: «tavola cuspidata con l’Arcangelo Michele che uccide il drago (Pin Com. n. 1) attr. a Parri Spinelli e restaurata da Domenico Fiscali nel 1916» (cfr. Archivio del Museo Nazionale Medievale, faldone s. segnatura, Fasc. II [Pasqui] 1917: «N. 43»). L’opera è oggi data a Buonamico Buffalmacco, l’artista toscano a cui è già stato attribuito il singolare Trionfo della Morte del Camposanto pisano.
Description
When in 1917 Ubaldo Pasqui saw this painting in the Fraternity palace, then in the palazzo Barbolani da Montauto in Via San Lorentino, he described it thus: «pinnacled panel depicting the Archangel Michel slaying the dragon (Pin. No. 1). Attributed to Parri Spinelli and Restored by Domenico Fiscali in 1916». The painting has since been attributed to Buonamico Buffalmacco the Tuscan artist responsible for the spectacular Triumph o f D eath, i n t he C amposanto, P isa.
