Jacopo Martini fratello di Donato, anch’esso pittore, fu tra gli tra gli allievi di prima generazione iscritti alla Scuola libera di disegno e modellatura della Fraternita dei Laici dal 1806 al 1811 nel Palazzo di Piazza Grande. Fu anche ammesso a frequentare l’Accademia di Firenze periodo nel quale divenne esperto copista. È lui infatti l’autore di molti studi da opere di artisti contemporanei importanti (come il Ritratto di Napoleone dal David), tra tra le quali si deve collocare anche questo Uomo con la scimmia, dall’originale del 1590 di Annibale Carracci (conservato agli Uffizi).
Description
Jacopo Martini, brother of Donatus Martini, was a painter who was among the first generation of students enrolled in the Free School of Drawing and Modeling of the Fraternity of Lay which from 1806 to 1811 was located in the Palace of Piazza Grande. He was also allowed to attend the Academy in Florence where he became an expert copyist. He is in fact the author of many studies of important works of contemporary artists (such as the Portrait of Napoleon by David) including Man with the Ape after the original made in 1590 by Annibale Carracci (at Uffizi Gallery).
