Descrizione

Per questa opera, ben documentata, Teofilo Torri ricevette 30 lire il 21 ottobre 1612. Essa orna il grande salone del piano terreno del Palazzo di Fraternita e fu forse commissionata dai Rettori per accogliere degnamente la visita del Granduca Cosimo II de’ Medici, avvenuta nel settembre di quello stesso anno. Il Torri, che era anche affittuario di una casa della Fraternita dei Laici, nel corso della sua vita ricoprì importanti cariche all’interno dell’Istituzione di cui fu Rettore nel 1610. Forse il suo impegno artistico nel palazzo comprese altre decorazioni parietali che non si sono conservate.

Description

For this well documented work, Tefilo Torri received 30 lire on the 21st of October 1612. It adorns the great hall of the ground oor of the Fraternita Palace and was probably commissioned by the Rectors to worthily receive the visit of the Grand Duke Cosimo II de’ Medici, which occurred in September of that year. Torri, who was also tenant of a House of the Fraternity of the Lay, held important positions within the Fraternita over the course of his life: he was Rector in 1610 and maybe his artistic assignments for the Fraternita included other wall paintings which are now lost.
