Descrizione

Description

Lazzaro, the merchant son of Giovanni di Feo Bracci’s (1365 ca.-1415), can be considered the “founder” of the Fraternita dei Laici’s Palace. He was born in Arezzo around 1365 and from early on his father, the leather worker Giovanni, set him on the path of business and commerce. In 1410, after the death of his nephews Francesco and Accorso, Lazzaro wrote his will in favor of the Fraternita dei Laici with the intention of leaving all his property to the Institution. Thanks to Lazzaro’s legacy the Fraternita was able to undertake the construction of the Palace in Piazza Grande. His example inaugurated the great succession of public benefactors and patrons of the Pia Fraternita della Misericordia, as the Fraternity was originally known.
