L’ autore di questo dipinto potrebbe avere una provenienza senese. L’interesse per il tema del vescovi aretini potrebbe essere stato sollecitato dalla riscoperta e trascrizione, nel 1623 da parte del prete Girolamo Sinigardi, dell’antica Cronica de fatti d’Arezzo di Bartolomeo di Ser Gorello (ca. 1384) conservata un tempo nell’archivio storico della Fraternita dei Laici. Da notare la rappresentazione dell’antico duomo del Pionta nella piccola veduta al centro, distrutto nel 1561.
Description
The author of this work may have been from Siena. The interest in the topic of the bishops of Arezzo may have been sparked by the rediscovery and transcription of the Chronicle of deeds done in Arezzo (Cronica de fatti d’Arezzo) by Bartolomeo of Ser Gorello (ca. 1384), written in 1623 by the priest Girolamo Sinigardi. It is worth to mention the small view at the center with the depiction of the old Duomo of Pionta, destroyed in 1561.
