MARINA CON PORTO E MARE IN TEMPESTA

Descrizione

Sul retro è un’iscrizione dipinta “Del Sig. re Franc. sco M. Tira di Bolog.se 1767” e lo stemma della Fraternita”. È dunque probabile che l’opera sia giunta in collezione per donazione o lascito. Anche per questa opera s’ignora il nome dell’artista che la eseguì. Vi è rappresentato un porto con mare in tempesta e alcune figure che tentano di trarre dai flutti una terza, appesa ad una cima. Da notare gli edifici di foggia antica che collocano il dipinto in attardato gusto tardo-arcadico ancora in voga alla fine del XVIII secolo.

Description

The back of this painting is inscribed “Of Francesco M. Tira of Bologna 1767”, and accompanied by the emblem of the Fraternita dei Laici. It more than likely entered the Fraternita’s collection as a gift or bequest. The artist of this scene, showing a harbour during a storm, remains unknown. Two figures attempt to pull a third, clinging to a rope, from the waves. The anachronistically old buildings tend to suggest that the painting was executed in the ‘Arcadian’ style, which was fashionable in the late 18th century.
